If you’re reading this then CONGRATULATIONS!!! Planning a wedding can be one of the most stressful things that you will ever do but all that hard work is worth it when it all comes together for our big day!
Booking a wedding photographer is one of the first things that happens when you start the wedding planning process! There are also a few good reasons on why you should book your photographer early. If you are planning on having engagement photos and bridal photos done before the wedding, it’s a great idea to use the same photographer so that all of your photos can seamlessly blend together and look like a story instead of individual photoshoots. Taking engagement or bridal photos with your wedding photographer will also give you a chance to meet and work with them before the wedding so it won’t be as stressful or awkward on the day of your wedding. Most photographers will offer a package that includes some type of bundle where engagements and bridals are included (like me<3). Since weddings are typically on weekends, that limits the availability of the photographer since weekends usually book up the fastest (especially during the spring and the fall).
Since there are countless talented photographers, it’s also important to consider what type of style you like. For example, if you like a clean, true to life, timeless style then you probably shouldn’t book with a photographer who specializes in warm, dark, and moody editing. There is nothing wrong with either style but finding one that has a style that you love will guaranty that you will love your photos for years to come. Looking through their social media and website can help you see their style of work but you should always feel free to ask them to send you a full gallery so you can see a full day of work instead of just a handful of curated photos.
One of the not so fun things to consider is the budget…but I promise it’s just as important as everything else. Most photographers will have some form of pricing on their website to give people a starting point on what they could be spending if they decide to book with them. The price of the photographer is also a good reflection of the quality of their work (but there are always exceptions to this).
Your photographer will most likely be spending more time with you and your soon to be spouse than you will spend with each other so it’s crucial that you book with someone who you are comfortable with and that you can trust. You can find what other people have said about working with them through their google/facebook reviews or some even have a review section directly on their website.
Another important thing that you can do is to ask questions! Here are some examples that you can use
